At Preston DMV we can assist you with your Enhanced Driver’s License and ID.

Beginning May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years and older will need a REAL ID, Enhanced Driver’s License or ID, Passport or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States or enter federal facilities.

✔ Can be used as U.S. border crossing documents

If you currently have a Real ID or Enhanced Driver’s License, Instruction Permit or ID. And it is time to renew. No additional documentation is required.

Enhanced Driver’s License Requirement s

In order to apply for an Enhanced Driver’s License or Identification card,
you’ll need to provide documents that meet the following requirements.

• PROOF of DATE OF BIRTH (One document from List A)
• PROOF of FULL LEGAL NAME (One document from List B – that is not being used as proof of photographic identity documents)
• PROOF of SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (One document from List C)
• PROOF of PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTITY (One document from List D – that is not being used as proof of full legal name document)
• PROOF of UNITED STATE CITIZENSHIP (One document from List E)
• PROOF of MINNESOTA RESIDENCY (Two documents from List F – that have the applicant’s current name and address)

List A – PROOF OF DATE OF BIRTH
(One document from this list)

1. Original or certified copy of U.S. or U.S. territory birth certificate that bears the raised or authorized seal of the issuing jurisdiction or a protective equivalent
2. United States Department of State Consular Report of
   Birth Abroad (FS-240, DS-1335, or FS545)
3. Valid, unexpired U.S. passport or U.S. passport card
4. Certificate of naturalization (Form N-550, N-570)
5. Certificate of citizenship (N-560, N-561)
6. American Indian card (Form I-872) or Minn. tribal
   identification card that meets the requirements of
   Minn. Stat. § 171.072
7. Military photo identification card issued to active,
   reserve or retired military personnel only

List B – PROOF OF FULL LEGAL NAME (One document from this list that is not being used as proof of photographic identity.)

If your name has changed, you must submit proof of each name change. Acceptable proof includes a certified copy of a marriage certificate, divorce decree or dissolution of marriage, or a court-ordered name change.

1. Original or certified copy of U.S. or U.S. territory birth certificate that bears the raised or authorized seal of the issuing jurisdiction or a protective equivalent
2. United States Department of State Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240, DS-1335, or FS545)

13. American Indian card (From I-872) or Minn. tribal identification card that meets the requirements of Minn. Stat.§ 171.072
14. Valid city, county, state or federal employee identification card
15. U.S. high school ID card with a certified transcript from the school, both issued no more than 180 days before the EDL of EID application
16. U.S. college or university ID card with a certified transcript from the same college or university, both issued no more than 180 days before the EDL or EID application
17. Veterans universal access identification card
18. Minn. unemployment insurance benefit statement issued no more than 90 days before EDL or EID application
19. Federal or state income tax return or statement for the most recent tax filing year
20. Minn. property tax statement for the current year that reflects the applicant’s principal residential address both on the mailing portion and portion stating what property is being taxed
21. Minn. vehicle certificate of title if issued no more than 12 months before EDL or EID application.
22. A filed property deed or title for current residence if issued no more than 12 months before EDL or EID application
23. Supplemental Security Income award statement that is issued no more than 12 months before EDL or EID application

List C – PROOF OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (One document from this list)

1. Original Social Security Card
2. Federal or Minnesota income tax form W-2
3. Federal or Minnesota income tax form SSA-1099
4. Federal or Minnesota income tax form non-SSA-1099
5. U.S. employment computer-printed pay stub with applicant’s name, address and full Social Security number

List D – PROOF OF PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTITY (One document from this list that is not being used as proof of full legal name.)

1. Valid Minnesota driver’s license, valid ID card or valid permit
2. Valid driver’s license, valid ID card, or valid permit issued by another U.S. state, including the district of Columbia and any U.S. territory
3. U.S. military identification card issued to active, reserve, and retired military personnel
4. U.S. military dependent identification card
5. Valid unexpired U.S. passport or U.S. passport card
6. American Indian card (Form I-872) or Minnesota tribal ID card that meets the requirement of Minn. Stat.§ 171.072

List F – PROOF OF MINNESOTA RESIDENCE (Two different documents from this list that must have the applicant’s current name and Minnesota resident address. Only one of a document type will be accepted.)

1. United States home utility services bill (Not issued more than 90 days before the EDL/EID application; the commissioner shall not accept if two unrelated people are listed on the document submitted)
2. United States home utility services hook-up work order (Not issued more than 90 days before the EDL/EID application; the commissioner shall not accept if two unrelated people are listed on the document submitted)
3. United States financial information with account numbers redacted including (Not issued more than 90 days before the EDL/EID application):
   • Bank Account statement
   • Canceled check
   • Credit Card statement
4. United States high school identification card with a certified transcript from the same school (Not issued more than 180 days before the EDL/EID application)
5. United States college or university identification card with a certified transcript from the same school (Not issued more than 180 days before the EDL/EID application)
6. United States employment pay stub that lists the employer’s name, address, and telephone number (Not issued more than 90 days before the EDL/EID application)
7. Minn. unemployment insurance benefit statement (Not issued more than 90 days before the EDL/EID application)
8. Assisted living or nursing home statement P(Not issued more than 90 days before the EDL/EID application)
9. Life, health, automobile, homeowner’s, or renter’s insurance policy. Proof of insurance card will not be accepted. (Not issued more than 90 days before the EDL/EID application)
10. Federal or state income tax return or statement for the most recent tax filing year
11. Minn. property tax statement for the current year that reflects the applicant’s principal residential address both on the mailing portion and portion stating which property is being taxed
